“Authenticity – the daily practice of letting go of who we think we are supposed to be, and embracing who we are.”

Codependency
The word codependency can carry a heavy weight, often misunderstood or dismissed as simply being “too caring” or “too involved” in relationships. However, codependency is more than just prioritizing others; it’s a deeply ingrained relational pattern rooted in early experiences of unmet emotional needs, enmeshment, or instability. When we learn that love and worthiness are tied to caretaking, pleasing, or self-sacrifice, we may develop a strong reliance on external validation at the expense of our own needs and identity.
The following are common signs of codependency:
- Difficulty setting or maintaining healthy boundaries
- Fear of rejection, abandonment, or disapproval
- Low self-esteem or feeling unworthy of love
- Feeling responsible for others’ emotions or well-being
- Struggles with decision-making or asserting personal needs
- Anxiety or guilt when prioritizing yourself
- A deep-seated need for validation from others
- Avoidance of conflict due to fear of upsetting others
Often, codependent behaviors stem from past survival mechanisms—patterns that once helped maintain safety in childhood or challenging relationships but now contribute to emotional exhaustion, resentment, and a loss of self. Left unaddressed, codependency can lead to anxiety, depression, burnout, and struggles with self-worth and autonomy. Healing requires not just insight but a deep, embodied shift toward self-trust, self-compassion, and balanced relationships. By exploring the root causes of codependent patterns, you can begin to untangle old narratives and develop a sense of self that is independent, empowered, and whole.
